WASHINGTON - Bucksteep Manor, an iconic 19th century estate on Washington Mountain Road, has been sold for $1.8 million, according to documents filed at the Middle Berkshire Registry of Deeds in Pittsfield.

Retired Judge Rudolph Sacco of Pittsfield, and his family, who had owned Bucksteep for 41 years, sold the over 300 acre parcel to Family United International Inc., a New York City based nonprofit that works with people who have special needs.

The manor property itself was sold for $1.5 million. The total purchase price also includes a smaller parcel adjacent to Bucksteep Manor that two Sacco family members sold for $3,600.

Under the Sacco’s ownership, Bucksteep has served as an inn and conference center.

The estate was originally built in 1897 as a vacation and summer home by wealthy New York attorney George F. Crane.
