LOWELL -- A Billerica man is facing multiple counts of identity fraud after Billerica police allege he used personal information of two Air Force Reserves buddies he served with 15 years ago to rack up thousands of dollars in bills for electricity, cable and cellphone.

Billerica police allege in court documents that Charles M. Curll of 15 Sheffield Drive, left $2,252 in unpaid bills with National Grid and Comcast under the name of a Unity, N.H., man and spent $3,000 in charges with National Grid, Comcast and Sprint accounts under the name of a man who lives in New Britain, Conn.

In Lowell District Court on Thursday, Curll, 63, appeared for a status hearing on a total of six counts of identification fraud in the two cases. Curll, who has pleaded not guilty to the charges and is free on personal recognizance, is scheduled for trial on Dec. 11.

Curll could not be reached for comment via the two phone numbers listed in court documents.

Billerica police charged Curll with three counts of identification fraud in Aug. 15, 2012, after the Connecticut victim was contacted by his credit-card company about a Sprint account that was past due for $1,564. Doing a credit check, the victim found two more past due bills for National Grid and Comcast, $538 and $938, respectively.

The address on all the accounts was 15 Sheffield Drive, Billerica, where Curll lives. The victim noted that he and Curll were in the Air Force Reserves together at Westover Air Force Base in Chicopee more than 15 years ago.

When Billerica police detectives spoke to Curll around Aug. 8, 2012, he allegedly admitted to opening the accounts because he was "tight on money" and thought he would open up accounts, not pay and "it would go away," according too court documents.

Curll tried calling the companies to pay the overdue bills, but the accounts were closed and the debts were sent to collection companies to be recovered.

On Aug. 15, 2012, Billerica police received a call from the New Hampshire victim, who was suddenly receiving calls at work from a collection agencies about unpaid bills from 2010 and 2011 for National Grid and Comcast for 15 Sheffield Drive, Billerica.

The New Hampshire victim confirmed he was in the Air Force Reserves from 1987 to 2003 assigned to the services unit at Westover Air Force Base, the same unit Curll was assigned to.
