WILLIAMSTOWN -- Three people police believe were operating as a heroin-dealing team are facing charges following a recent raid by the Berkshire County Drug Task Force.
Michael Richard, 32, of Union Street, North Adams; Luis Luna Silva, 23, of Willow Dell, North Adams; and Brittany Gadek, 22, of Concord Avenue, Holyoke, were allegedly selling heroin from a Main Street motel room, police said.
After witnessing what appeared to be "at least three" heroin deals in the motel room, police executed a search warrant on July 10 and seized 60 bags of heroin, heroin packaging material, and $709 in cash, according to a probable cause report written by North Adams Police Detective Mark Bailey.
"The evidence ... clearly indicates that [the suspects] are working as a team to distribute heroin in Northern Berkshire County," he said in the report.
Upon the search of the Willows Motel room, which was rented by Richard, Gadek allegedly told police she didn't know what was going on and was only in the region for a supervised visit of her child.
According to the report, Luna had $709 in cash in his right front pocket, some of which was from controlled purchases of heroin facilitated by police. Gadek allegedly had the six bundles of heroin in her purse, but told police she didn't know how it got there.
Richard did not have heroin or cash on him, but allegedly had a backpack containing empty heroin bags.
The three were arrested and arraigned the next day in Northern Berkshire District Court on charges of possession to distribute a class A drug and conspiracy to violate drug law.
Richard was arrested less than a week earlier allegedly in possession of 20 bags of heroin. In that case, he was charged with possession to distribute a class A drug, class A drug distribution, and conspiracy to violate drug law. He was free on personal recognizance, but his bail status was revoked upon his arraignment on the new charges.
Gadek and Richard each had bail set at $1,500 cash, while Silva was released on personal recognizance.
