PITTSFIELD -- A Dalton woman is facing multiple charges after allegedly leading police on a car chase on her way to get ice cream with her child.

Stephanie M. Carsno, 29, of Housatonic Street, was driving a black 1999 Infiniti QX4 near North and Wahconah streets about 3:15 p.m. Thursday when she was spotted by Pittsfield Police Officer Eliezer Garcia.

Garcia, who knew Carsno's license was suspended, tried to pull her over on Orchard Street, but Carsno refused to stop and blew through a red light and a stop sign "at a high rate of speed," according to a probable cause report.

Carsno was finally pulled over on Lincoln Street after another police officer, Ignacio Matos, was able to pull his cruiser in front of the Infiniti, forcing it to stop.

The officers approached the vehicle with guns drawn and ordered the front seat occupants out of the SUV. Carsno and Daniel Grimes, her codefendant in an open drug case, got out of the vehicle with their hands in the air, according to the report. Grimes, 28, was not arrested.

Carsno's 10-year-old daughter and a dog were in the back seat.

A relative who has custody of the child and said she had allowed Carsno to take her for ice cream, arrived on scene to take the girl.

The state Department of Children and Families was alerted to the incident, police said.

The dog was picked up by its owner.

Carsno was arrested and charged with four misdemeanors, including failing to stop for police, reckless operation, reckless endangerment of a child and driving with a suspended license.

She was also charged with two violations: failure to stop for a red light and a stop sign.

She was released on personal recognizance by an assistant clerk magistrate Thursday evening, but she failed to appear Friday morning for her arraignment in Central Berkshire District Court. Judge Fredric D. Rutberg issued a non-bailable warrant for her.

Carsno was out on $1,000 bail at the time of her new arrest. In that case she is facing possession to distribute cocaine and heroin charges stemming from an arrest in May. Pittsfield Police allege she was involved in drug sales from a city Laundromat and convenience store parking lot along with Grimes, of Springfield, and Matthew Guillou, 26, of Pittsfield.

All three have denied the charges.
