NORTH ADAMS -- An Ashland Street man was sentenced to four months in jail on Monday after he admitted to a 2013 assault with a tire iron.
Edward Reid, 27, assaulted a city man outside the Key West Lounge on Sept. 28, 2013, according to a report filed by North Adams Police Officer Brad Vivori. Later that morning, Reid then went the man’s residence and struck a woman three times during a scuffle.
The woman had met Reid on Facebook and hung out with him a few times, she told police, but the relationship was strictly platonic. When she and a male friend bumped into Reid at the bar on Sept. 28, he made a scene and assaulted the male before fleeing, she told police. Vivori’s report notes that he later observed a small cut on the male’s face, and that the man showed him a blood-soaked shirt from the incident.
A while later, Reid apparently showed up at the pair’s residence. He beckoned them outside and threatened them with a knife, assaulted the female, and slashed a car tire in the driveway before leaving, according to the report.
Reid admitted to sufficient facts in Northern Berkshire District Court on Monday to assault and battery, two counts of assault with a deadly weapon, and malicious destruction of property over $250.
The District Attorney’s Office sought a two-year sentence in the case, while Reid and his attorney, Mark Pasquariello, had asked for 30 days.
