NORTH ADAMS -- A local construction company has been cited for numerous safety violations after an unattended dump truck rolled into the woods near Millard Avenue last weekend.
The Clarksburg Construction Co.'s 10-wheeled dump truck, also towing a flatbed construction trailer, was improperly secured on Southernview Drive on Saturday before it rolled down the street, according to North Adams Police Sgt. James Burdick. It crossed Millard Avenue before crashing into trees.
The crew had been unloading an excavator off the of the flatbed trailer, according to Burdick. There were no injuries in the accident.
North Adams Police responded to the scene at 10:12 a.m. and called in the Massachusetts State Police Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Section, or "Truck Team," to investigate the accident, Burdick said.
"[State Police] did an inspection of the trailer and truck," Burdick said. "Numerous violations were found on both, and it's being addressed by the state police."
The violations include brake issues and the absence of some safety features, he said. The truck has been taken out of service by the State Police.
It was not clear whether the driver, Jeffrey Bartlett, of Clarksburg, also was cited.
Attempts to reach the construction company were unsuccessful.
