BOSTON (AP) -- WBZ-TV news anchor Jack Williams is stepping aside but will remain involved in his work for special needs children and serve as a substitute news anchor.

Williams said Monday he will reduce his workload after 39 years with the station and continue his involvement in the "Jack Williams’ Endowment for Wednesday’s Child." He and his wife Marci established the endowment to help special needs children find permanent homes.

Williams said he’ll continue his ‘Wednesday’s Child’ reports and work as a substitute news anchor.

His new schedule is effective Sept. 1.

Williams launched his "Wednesday’s Child" in 1981, featuring a special needs child who is in search of a permanent home. He’s been a news anchor at WBZ-TV since 1975.
