LEE -- The Inn at Laurel Lake remains under current management as Thursday's public sale of the historic property was postponed until next month.
A representative with Aaron Posnik & Co. of Springfield opened the auction as scheduled at 11 a.m. on the two-acre site, but immediately announced it was adjourned until Sept. 15, 11 a.m. at the inn. The auctioneer, who didn't identify himself, didn't comment on why the auction was being delayed.
Springfield attorney John Davis, representing TD Bank, later wouldn't comment further regarding the reason for the auction.
TD Bank holds the mortgage on the inn, operated by Thomas Fusco and Tara Viola, according to a recent legal notice in The Eagle.
According to auctioneer firm's website, the sale of the 19-room inn overlooking Laurel Lake from Route 20 includes the equipment and furnishings.
Originally built as a residence in 1881, the inn has offered lakeside lodging since 1900, changing hands several times before Fusco and Viola bought it in 1996.
Late last year, the owners put the inn up for sale, listing it at $995,000 with Harvest Moon Realty of Chester, according to the website of a local realtor. The Lee Board of Assessors has the property valued at $917,000 for property tax purposes.
