PITTSFIELD -- Steve Kerrigan, a Democratic candidate for lieutenant governor, will greet supporters and voters at 6 tonight at Mad Jack's BBQ at 295 North St. in Pittsfield.

The event, hosted by state Sen. Benjamin B. Downing, D-Pittsfield, and North Adams Mayor Richard Alcombright, is one of 30 meet-and-greets the candidate is holding across the state to talk about issues in the race.

Kerrigan is a former Lancaster selectman, a former longtime aide to Senator Ted Kennedy, a former chief of staff to Attorney General Tom Reilly, CEO of the 2012 Democratic National Convention and CEO of President Barack Obama's second inauguration.

He currently serves as the president of the Massachusetts Military Heroes Fund, a private nonprofit dedicated to providing support to Massachusetts families of fallen military services members from the Iraq and Afghanistan wars.

Kerrigan is one of three Democrats seeking the nomination for lieutenant governor in the September primary -- along with Michael Lake and Leland Cheung -- to be the running mate for the party's gubernatorial nominee.

He has the support of 14 mayors, four sheriffs and more than 30 legislators from across the state. In June, Kerrigan placed first at the Democratic State Convention.
