PITTSFIELD -- An 18-year-old North Adams man was under the knife at Berkshire Medical Center after a juvenile stabbed him during a birthday party downtown.

Alex Heck suffered a "non-life-threatening" stab wound to the stomach and was rushed from 9 Crane Ave. to the hospital by fellow partygoers at roughly 3 p.m.

Pittsfield Police Lt. Jeffrey Bradford said numerous witnesses interviewed at the scene identified the suspect as a juvenile male, perhaps 14 years old.

"At some point the suspect allegedly stabbed Heck in the stomach with a steak knife and fled the scene on foot," Bradford said. "We conducted an area search but could not locate the suspect."

Police did locate the knife used in the stabbing.

Bradford said the investigation is ongoing and police continue to search for the juvenile. Charges are pending.

Meantime, Heck was undergoing surgery at BMC early Saturday evening. He will recover from the wound, according to police.
