CHICOPEE, MASS. >> The Chicopee City Council has voted unanimously to pay $110,000 to settle a lawsuit brought by the family of a homicide victim after police shared graphic cellphone photos of the 20-year-old woman's body.
The Republican reports that as part of the settlement, Mayor Richard Kos has agreed publicly apologize to the family of Amanda Plasse.
Plasse's mother and siblings said their civil rights were violated when police officers took photos of the body and shared them with the public.
The suit said police actions were "intentional, reckless, extreme and outrageous beyond all bounds of decency and utterly intolerable in a civilized community."
Plasse was found fatally stabbed in her apartment in August 2011.
A former neighbor is scheduled for trial on a murder charge next month.
