BOSTON >> The 73-year-old reputed acting boss of the New England Mafia and his 75-year-old associate have both pleaded guilty to extortion charges in federal court in Boston.
The Boston Globe reports Antonio "Spucky" Spagnolo and Pryce Quintana entered the pleas Monday in connection with the threatening of the owner of the Revere Moose Lodge and another businessman.
Prosecutors say the duo were paid protection payments from a local video poker machine company in exchange for their help in steering businesses away from using their competition's machines via threats.
Spagnolo, the alleged boss who needed a court-issued hearing aid, will serve 2 years in prison. Quintana, who walks with a limp, will serve 18 months behind bars.
The sentences of both "made men" requires approval from federal court judge Patti Saris.
