GREAT BARRINGTON — A Westfield man will spend 30 days in the Berkshire County Jail and House of Correction following a mini crime spree against local churches.
In Southern Berkshire District Court this week, Judge Paul Vrabel sentenced David S. Heck, 42, of Lewis Avenue, after finding him guilty of two counts of receiving stolen property.
According to a report filed by the Lenox Police Department, officials at the United Methodist Church on Holmes Road and Hope Church on Kemble Street reported break-ins the evening of Aug. 6, 2007.
In both cases, the intruder broke into the church offices and ransacked the rooms. Ultimately, police said, the intruder only got a total of about $50, plus some computer hard drives.
During the course of the investigation, police learned of Heck, whose method of operation was to break into churches, mostly in the Westfield area.
Westfield police had obtained a search warrant for Heck's Westfield residence. Included in the 115 items listed as stolen were the computer hard drives from the two Lenox churches, which officials from both churches eventually identified.
