SPRINGFIELD >> The Springfield Vietnamese Cultural Association is holding a ceremony this weekend to commemorate the anniversary of the Fall of Saigon.

The capital city of South Vietnam fell to North Vietnamese forces on April 30, 1975. The event marked the end of the Vietnam War. Springfield was home to many Vietnamese refugees during that period.

Springfield Mayor Domenic Sarno, a Democrat, is expected to participate in Sunday's ceremony. Former Army of the Republic of Vietnam officers, who fought on the side of the Americans and were imprisoned for about eight years, are also expected to participate.

The ceremony will be held next to the cultural association's building.
