BOSTON >> A former maintenance technician for a subsidized housing development in Boston has been sentenced to prison for his role in a scheme to rent apartments to people who didn't qualify.

Massachusetts U.S. Attorney Carmen Ortiz says 36-year-old Ismael Morales, of Jamaica Plain, was sentenced Wednesday to two years behind bars followed by two years of probation. Morales pleaded guilty in May to seven counts of corrupt receipt of payments by a federally funded organization and related offenses.

Morales worked for Roxse Homes, in the city's Roxbury neighborhood.

In 2014, Roxse Homes had a long waitlist, which had been closed to external applicants since 2009.

Prosecutors say Morales solicited and accepted money from individuals from September 2014 to February 2015 in exchange for blank rental applications.
