Prosecutors say Patrolwoman Jessica Rondinelli responded to reports of a fight outside a city bar at about 1 a.m. Sunday. The police report says while Rondinelli was putting the 19-year-old Wiley in a cruiser Wiley bit off a piece of the officer's ear.
Doctors were unable to re-attach it.
Wiley's attorney said his client is a Salem State University student who suffers from depression, anxiety, and obsessive-compulsive disorder.
Rondinelli's first police shift was July 1.
