SPRINGFIELD, MASS. >> Flames ripped through a duplex in Springfield for the second time in just two days this past weekend, causing another estimated $20,000 in damage to the structure.
The Republican newspaper reports the latest fire at the Ashley Avenue residence was reported around 9:30 p.m. Sunday.
Local firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, which were contained to one side of the duplex. Fire officials say the blaze could've been caused by a variety of factors.
The cause of the initial fire, which occurred on Friday, was considered suspicious but had not been officially determined by the time of the second blaze.
The owners of the duplex already were in the process of rehabilitating the structure when the second fire ignited. The first fire caused upward of $100,000 in property damage.
