NORTH ADAMS — Among the many American Legion Auxiliary programs, children and youth takes a high priority. This year's chairwoman, Department Second Vice President Bonnie Sladeski of Chicopee, has selected the two Massachusetts Ronald McDonald Houses as her special project.

Donations will be divided equally between the Ronald McDonald House in Boston and the Springfield Ronald McDonald House.

Often referred to as "the House that Love Built," the houses are a home away from home for the families whose children are hospitalized. Over 250 houses have opened since the first one was established in Philadelphia in 1974.

The houses are sustained by the generous donations of the community and gifts of any amount are welcome.

Since 1991, the Ronald McDonald House of Springfield has been a haven for families whose children are treated at the Shriners Hospital.

Frank R. Stiles Unit 125 made a $50 donation to the two houses and household supplies valued at over $100 to the Springfield facility.
