EXETER, N.H. (AP) -- A traveling medical technician ac cused of causing a hepatitis C outbreak in New Hamp shire had been fired by hospitals in Pennsylvania and Ari zona, hospital officials said.

David Kwiatkwoski was found inside an area of a Pitts burgh hos pital where he was not as signed in 2008 and fired, a statement from UPMC Pres byterian said. UPMC said it notified Kwiat kowski’s em ployer, Maxim Staff ing Solutions.

"We are working closely with the Allegheny County Health De partment and the Pennsyl va nia Department of Health to identify patients who may have come into contact with Mr. Kwiatkowski and determine if they may have been at risk for contracting Hepatitis C," the statement said.

The CEO at an Arizona hospital where Kwiatkwoski worked has also said he was fired after testing positive for cocaine and marijuana. He had also worked in Georgia, Kan sas, Maryland, Michigan, New York before be ing hired by Exeter Hospital in New Hamp shire in 2011.

Kwiatkwoski is being held on federal drug charges in New Hampshire.
