I was one of many who searched for Edward Passetto last Saturday. I traveled from Amherst to join two of my teammates from Berkshire Mountain Search and Rescue, along with local firefighters and law enforcement. We always have hope that we can find and rescue. But this time, along with about 14 firefighters, we could only bring him down from the mountain and provide closure to his friends and family.

But there is no closure to this until every single one of our veterans receive the help and care they deserve. We are quick to send our young men and women into war, where they risk their lives for our safety. But, when they return from the battlefield, we turn our backs on them, denying them adequate health care and financial assistance.

This is not right. This is not right and we must all rally together to bring about change to "the system."

My heartfelt condolences go out to Edward’s friends and family along with the other brave servicemen and women with whom he so bravely served.
