I am Christine Yon your current Ward 1 city councilor. Four years ago when I was able to dedicate full-time to the position of Ward 1 City Council, I came before you and asked for your vote. I told you I would be attentive to your needs, approachable, someone you can talk to, who works hard to deliver positive results.
I believe, and hope you do too, that I have been a compassionate hard working advocate for you, my constituents, in Ward 1.
First and foremost, I have answered your phone calls and emails in a timely fashion and worked hard to resolve your concerns. We paved many roads and sidewalks in Ward 1 and replaced non-functioning fire hydrants. We took down unsafe trees and removed blighted houses, addressed swamping issues in the backyards of Oakhill Road and North Street and we prevented a Methadone Clinic from locating in a Ward 1 residential neighborhood, fixed early problems with the Berkshire Mosquito program, launched the Tyler Street Business Group, saved the Pontoosuc Boat House, secured an historic feasibility grant for the Springside House, and state money to purchase the Housatonic Rail Bed, which allows us the ability to move forward in our attempt to bring the bike path into Pittsfield. We restored better bus service to the Oakhill Apartments and worked closely with the neighbors at East Acres, Winship and Westchester to come to an equitable agreement with the developers of Ponterill and the neighborhood.
I listened and responded when the Partridge Road neighborhood asked for a temporary road closing while the Mall
Road was being built, successfully persuaded the zoning board of appeals to rule in favor of Partridge Road regarding an unfavorable zoning change to the neighborhood, had the culvert fixed on Glenn Drive that presented a danger to walkers and bikers and addressed the stalled Oak Hill Road culvert, moving it forward to completion, had audible signals installed for the visually impaired on the new traffic lights at North and Crane and North and Wahconah streets.
I believe through commitment and hard work, I have raised the level of representation in Ward 1. I believe I have kept my word and demonstrated that I am attentive to your needs, one who works hard to deliver positive results.
All of these accomplishments took teamwork. Teamwork made possible by the ability to develop good relationships and work side by side in government. We have accomplished much and there is still more to do. There are more drainage issues, a new road construction request list, more sidewalk repairs, more dead trees, more blighted houses and a new development raising concerns in another neighborhood.
My motto is "How can we?". I believe through teamwork with city department heads and council colleagues, we "can" find solutions.
So again, I ask for your vote so we can continue our work together. I ask you to vote on Nov. 5 for me, Christine Yon, your "full time" city councilor.
Thank you for your help and support. We are a good team.
