I have rewritten this article many times over the past two weeks because I want to include everything that matters to me and make my point that I am the right choice to lead our ward over Mr. Caccamo. Now that Mr. Caccamo admitted at the Egremont School debate that he will not be able to vote on many issues brought before the council because he is a city employee, I was forced to rewrite it again. So here it is in a nutshell.
I spent most of the 1980s in the U.S. Army and achieved the rank of Specialist Fifth Class (Sergeant, but was a weapons specialist) and was a squad leader throughout my military career. I’m a leader, not a follower! I was appointed to the police academy by Mayor Ed Reilly, but chose to be a locksmith/safe technician and have worked for J&J Lock for 23 years.
I sat as a trustee on the board of directors of the Italian-American Club. I know the inner workings of our government and know how to use my life experiences and knowledge to implement plans to better our ward and our city as a whole. I am not a cookie cutter politician; I refuse to sit idly by while others make decisions for us. I will stand up and fight to bring Ward 3 back to the top and once again be envied as the best part of the city and help to make Pittsfield the best part of the state.
I am a property owner and taxpayer in Ward 3; so I understand how property taxes and water and sewage rates impact you and your family. My residence is in a small side street in our ward, so I really understand the need to re-route traffic out of our neighborhoods and back onto the main streets where it belongs.
We raised our daughter in Ward 3, so I am well aware of the school’s issues and problems, as well as the need to improve our parks. They need to be better maintained and patrolled by law enforcement to keep the criminal element out of those areas! I will fight to find the funds to hire more police and firefighters and get them the updated equipment they need to keep our neighborhoods safe and secure and chase the criminals and punks out of our community! If we make our neighborhoods safe, the city will follow! I will also fight tooth and nail to have the condemned and abandoned property torn down so there will be no more eyesores in our neighborhoods.
I will do all the heavy lifting, but you must get to the polls and vote "Latura for change," and because, as your councilor, I will be accountable to you at all times, you will always be able to contact me and get a response! As the best candidate I will be able to vote on 100 percent of everything brought before the council, unlike Mr. Caccamo, who will have to abstain from a great many votes, in a sense leaving Ward 3 voiceless.
As a property owner and taxpayer I am concerned that if Mr. Caccamo gets elected we in Ward 3 will have laws and taxes levied upon us without proper representation! Isn’t that one of the main reasons this country fought the revolution and broke off from England in the first place? Because the people were having laws and taxes forced upon them without proper representation? I, as your councilor, will be able to voice your concerns and demands on all issues, not just a few!
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your representative in our ward. Vote "Latura for change" on Tuesday, Nov. 5 and have your voice heard on every issue!
