In recent years a progressive agenda has spearheaded public/private partnerships that have led to the restoration of one of the world's finest acoustical theaters drawing world-class performers to the city; the establishment of a 52-acre business park for innovative entrepreneurs in emerging technologies; a new arts overlay district, making the downtown a more exciting place to live and to work; state legislation giving the city the capacity to boost the number of restaurants in the downtown; and a groundbreaking technology initiative that has supplied laptop computers to every middle school student in the city.
