ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) -- Federal agents are trying to determine the source of 30-round magazines used by felon William Spengler Jr. when he killed two western New York firefighters and wounded two others after luring them by burning his house.

The Rochester Democrat and Chronicle (http://on.rocne.ws/163oSvl ) cites law enforcement sources as saying the rambling letter Spengler left behind said he had an intermediary buy the high-capacity magazines for his semiautomatic rifle.

Scott Heaghney of the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives tells the newspaper that agents are investigating whether the magazines were bought in Pennsylvania because New York has a 10-round limit.

Spengler's former neighbor, Dawn Nguyen (WHEN), is charged with buying the convicted felon a rifle and shotgun and lying on the paperwork by saying they were for her.
