Great Barrington: Author to speak at AIER

Author Peter Barnes will discuss inequality of wealth and ways to address it in a Schumacher lecture on Sunday, July 27, at the American Institute for Economic Research.

"Economics for the Anthropocene" will take place at 7:30 p.m. at AIER, 250 Division St.

Seating is limited, so preregistration is required. The cost is $5 or 5 BerkShares. BerkShares are preferred.

Pittsfield: Hillcrest awards scholarships

Hillcrest Educational Centers Inc. has awarded up to $300 in scholarships to nine area high school seniors.

Since 2004, Hillcrest has made scholarships available to students who attend high school in the communities where the agency has programs, including Great Barrington, Lenox and Pittsfield.

This year’s recipients include, Kyle Strack and Dominic Nda of Taconic High School; Nicole Belair, Emily Sorrentino and Sarah Morley of Lenox Memorial High School; and Samantha Bailey, Shenna Carpenter, Meghan Driscoll and Mollie Daley of Pittsfield High School.

Sheffield: Signups open for nonprofit program

Board chairs and vice chairs of regional nonprofits are eligible to apply for a scholarship to attend "Governing for Nonprofit Excellence," a four-day executive education program that takes place at Harvard Business School in October.

HBS is providing one full scholarship through the Berkshire Taconic Community Foundation, valued at $4,000. The deadline for submitting applications is Friday, Aug. 1. Notification will take place in September. The program takes place Oct. 26 to 29 in Boston.
