CHESHIRE -- It seemed every Wahconah attacker helped to get the Warriors girls lacrosse team out in front of Hoosac Valley on Friday.

It was definitely Perin Genaway, though, who closed the door on the Hurricanes.

Genaway scored three goals, two of them within a minute of each other early in the second half, as Wahconah cruised to a 14-5 win at Hoosac.

"Perin is one of those players who can find her way open," Wahconah coach Kathy Budaj said. "She sees the field well, so she does get open. She scores some good goals for us."

The Warriors (5-1-2, 3-1-1 county) were in control at the half, leading 8-3 with eight different players scoring goals. After Shaina Farrell's early goal extended Wahconah's lead to six, Genaway found her spots and scored with 18:04 and 17:13 left in the game, prompting a Hoosac timeout.

"I was seeing a lane I could run to to get to the goal," Genaway, a midfielder, said. "I checked to the ball; I just got it and I went."

Farrell, Emmy Cote and Jordan Budaj each scored two goals as Wahconah led 8-1 before a Hoosac flurry in the first half's final minutes.

Kathy Budaj credited the Warriors' shooting patience and willingness to find the open player for the distribution of goals in the opening half.

"We don't have one facilitator," the coach said. "We have a couple, three, who are our go-to girls. They tend to find the people."

Holly Cadran scored twice, a goal in each half, for Hoosac (1-6). Allie Mendel did the same, and Aubrey Rumbolt added a goal for the home side.

Cadran's first goal came with 1:13 left in the first half, and was followed by Mendel's second of the game with just 18.8 seconds remaining. Hoosac also scored the game's final two goals.

"That says a lot about their character, that we continue to come back and fight," Hoosac coach Molly Meczywor said. "Our girls, they never give up.

"Holly's tough. We want the ball on her stick as much as possible. ... She's a good athlete. You can put her anywhere."
