DALTON -- Three years to the day after the passing of former coach Robert "Boog" Powell, the Wahconah Regional girls soccer team continued his winning ways.

The Warriors shut out Mount Greylock 3-0 on Friday, in a game rescheduled from the Sept. 24 cancellation due to electrical problems at the field.

"It was very emotional," Warriors coach Pat West said. "It was very much on their minds. This is Boog’s last group, too. They were freshmen."

Alex Keater, Bridget Lussier and Erin Hopmans scored for the victors, while Payton Hines made four saves in goal.

West saluted the players’ improved passing, as well as the strength of his defense.

"We had the Lussier sisters, Bridget and Shannon, playing sweeper today at various times," he said. "They’re just very good."

Margot Besnard made 12 saves for Greylock.

WESTFIELD -- The Hornets dropped this road game, falling behind 5-0 in the first hour.

Chad Raimer had McCann’s only goal off a penalty kick in the 66th minute. McCann coach Adam Kozik said most of Westfield’s goals came off bounces or rebounds in the box, not solid shots. Westfield Voc. was just quicker to the ball.

"Part of it was we weren’t winning the ball," Kozik said. "They were faster than us. They got to the ball faster than us."
