PITTSFIELD -- The Pittsfield girls soccer team clinched its first North Division title since 2009 on Saturday, knocking off Lenox 1-0 at Clapp Park.
Morgan Matthews’ goal in the 46 minute was all the offense the Generals (10-0-2) needed.
"That was one of the goals, to win the North back," said Pittsfield coach Andy Waluszko. "They accomplished that. The other goal was to make it to the Western Mass. finals. That’s another goal that we’re trying to achieve."
Matthews moved up from her stopper position, putting a ball that Lenox had attempted to clear into the corner of the net from 20 yards out. The Millionaires had a shot to equalize, missing a penalty kick with 27 minutes left.
Waluszko said the game was a defensive battle.
"In the first half, it was played strictly between the 18s," he said. "Both defenses played really well."
