CHESHIRE -- In soccer, you don’t want to give up a goal in the first or last 10 minutes of a half.

Hoosac Valley keeper Meg Richardson made a diving save in the final five minutes of the game to allow Madi Ryan’s goal in the eighth minute to stand up for a 1-0 win over Wahconah.

"This is outstanding for us," coach Blair Mahar said of the win over a North Division team. "One of our goals is always to play competitively in the North. Each year we’ve been playing more and more competitive. It’s great four our program. It also helps with our seeding."

The win is Hoosac’s sixth of the season, which means it needs two more to clinch a spot in the Western Massachusetts tournament. The Hurricanes can do that with wins over St. Joseph’s on Friday and Frontier on Saturday morning.

Ryan brought the Hurricanes one step closer to the postseason when she capitalized on an early opportunity. The ball was bouncing around in a scrum of players just inside Wahconah’s 18-yard box before Meg Rodowicz collected it, dished it quickly to Ryan who wasted no time beating Payton Hines for the 1-0 lead.

Mahar said it was a very evenly-played game, with each team having its chances and breakdowns. Hoosac outshot Wahconah 12-6.

Monument 2, Drury 1

NORTH ADAMS -- Haley Korte’s goal in the 77th minute gave the Spartans a key road win -- and stopped the momentum Drury coach Molly Meczywor felt her team had built.

"This loss, for us, really hurts," she said. "We controlled play in the second half. They put a lot of pressure on us [in the first half], but it seemed like in the second half, we won 50/50s.

"I’ve seen such growth in our team in the past two weeks that this loss really hurts."

Korte’s goal came off her corner kick, which glanced off Drury goalkeeper Ali Tatro and into the net.

Angela Pannesco scored Taconic’s lone goal.

LENOX -- Despite the draw, Millionaires coach Matt Cote was thrilled with his team’s play.

Josie Marshall broke a 1-1 tie for Lenox in the 76th minute before Jess Teodore got the equalizer two minutes later. Still, this wasn’t a disappointing tie for the hosts.

"I really saw us start to click offensively more than just occasionally," Cote said. "We built it up from the back a little bit, saw it take shape for the first time this year. We’re putting together both effort and skill."

Tova Brown had a first half goal for Lenox while Kathy Prescott made seven saves in net.

SHEFFIELD -- The Eagles were victimized by two own goals and, according to coach Jess Tomich, were in a "bit of a lull" defensively.

"Even when we went to push the ball up, we were playing too defensively and leaving our forwards stranded," she said. "We were just playing back and not helping out. We gave them chances to dribble."

The Hornets’ high-powered offense was slow to get going. Eileen Zajac’s goal in the fifth minute was the lone tally until McCann scored three times in nine minutes mid way through the first half. Nguyen started the burst with a goal in the 19th minute and helped close it with an assist on Alex Lincoln’s goal in the 25th.

Nguyen’s assist on C.J. Schliech’s goal in the 79th minute brought her within one point of tying the record.

GREAT BARRINGTON -- The Spartans got their second-half goals in the final 4 minutes to take the win. Nick Masiero scored in the 76th minute, with Lucas Wartella picking up his second goal of the game a minute later.

"We had been putting a lot of pressure on," Monument coach Matt Naventi said. "We were getting unlucky in a few situations. Then [goalkeeper] Aaron [House] just played a monster ball out of the net, and Nick took a great first touch on it. He touched it by a guy and was 1-on-1 with the keeper, and made a really nice finish."

Goalkeeper Blake Ferrara was under constant pressure in this one, making 26 saves.

"We’re missing some key players," said Everett coach Jesse Carpenter. "We can hold teams for a while. We’ve lost six in a row. Every game is either tied at the half or we’re down by a goal. The second half, we run out of gas."
