GREAT BARRINGTON -- Katherina Lister’s tally in the 71st minute was all the offense the Monument Mountain girls soccer team needed to win a North Division showdown with Lenox, 1-0.

"The second half I was a little worried," Monument coach Jess Platt said. "We have held teams to 0-0 at halftime before and not been able to hold it together and keep our level of play up for the next 40 [minutes]. But [Friday], we stayed strong and had some really great moments."

Lister made the most of hers on a cross. Courtney Freadman centered the ball hard along the ground. Lenox keeper Kathy Prescott deflected the ball and Lister was there to clean it up on a far-post run.

Hoosac 7, St. Joe’s 0

CHESHIRE -- Danielle Beauchemin, Lily Kronick and Abby Chaput all tallied two goals in the second half to fuel a much-needed win.

The win gives the Hurricanes 10 points in the South, tying them with Greylock atop the division and making the Oct. 19 matchup increasingly more important.

Coach Blair Mahar said a pep talk at halftime made the difference.

"We cannot tie. We cannot lose to St. Joe if we want to win the South," he said was the message. "They brought that Northern Division level of play [they had against Wahconah].

A win today clinches a berth in the Western Mass. tournament.

Beauchemin started the second-half onslaught just four minutes after the break and followed it up with another six minutes later. Kronick and Chaput then alternated scoring over the next 22 minutes. Meg Richardson had an easy time in goal, needing to make just one save before leaving the penalty box to play the field.

"[Crusaders keeper] Kendall [Smith] was great in the first half," Mahar said. "She literally kept St. Joe in it."

McCann 1, Renaissance 1

SPRINGFIELD -- Mary Nguyen added to her school record point total with a first-half goal, but Renaissance tied the game late.

"We had our opportunities," coach Mike Dowling said. "We hit the post a couple times, hit the cross bar in first half. It should have been 2-, 3-0 in the first half."

The tie completes a stretch of 10 games in 15 school days.

"That’s a nasty stretch," Dowling said.

McCann stays a game ahead of Renaissance in the standings. Alex Wood finished with three saves for the Hornets.

Boys
Everett 3, McCann 1

SHEFFIELD -- Sage Angell scored two of Mount Everett’s first-half goals as the Eagles ended a six-game losing streak. That helped the Eagles maintain control down the stretch.

"The big thing is we got up 3-0 in the first half," said Everett coach Jesse Carpenter said. "In our six-game losing streak, we gave up 19 goals in the second half."

Angell scored the Eagles’ first goal and second goal. Carpenter said the second goal was outstanding. Erik Derwitsch played a ball from midfield into the box and Angell headed it past McCann keeper P.J. Laliberte for the goal.
