SOUTHWICK -- Wahconah girls soccer coach Pat West didn’t feel his Warriors had many breakdowns in Tuesday’s Western Mass. Division II quarterfinal against Southwick.

When they happened, though, they were costly.

The Warriors’ postseason run came to an end with a 2-0 loss.

"We had two really minor breakdowns, and these kids just flew at the goal," West said. "They took two hard shots and made them.

"It’s hurtful that those two breakdowns really cost us, because it was an even game."

The teams were even in shots (10-10), and West said Wahconah had a 9-3 advantage in corners. Paige Cool scored in the first half for Southwick, while Jessica Teodore scored in the second half.

"We just didn’t finish. We didn’t take advantage of the opportunities we had," West said.

Payton Hines made six saves for Wahconah.

WILBRAHAM -- The Generals ran into the top seed in the Western Mass. Division II tournament and it wasn’t easy.

Pittsfield got just two points in the opening set on the way to a 25-2, 25-13, 25-5 sweep at the hands of the Falcons.

"The biggest thing was the second server they had had an interesting float serve," said Generals coach Brian Lawton. "She just ran off a ton of points. It was kind of a knuckleball and she served it with some pace too."

Pittsfield (11-9) got three assists, a kill and an ace from Adrianna Fox. Jade Coty added three digs and an ace while Stephanie Jimenez chipped in with five digs and a kill.

Despite the loss, Lawton said he was pleased with the season. He knew Minnechaug presented a tough challenge.

"We were happy with the way we did this year," he said. "That was our goal, to qualify for Western mass. To win that [first-round match] in front of our fans was special. We knew [Minnechaug was] an exceptionally good team. There were times when we were playing well. They’re just a very good, experienced team."
