GREAT BARRINGTON - For two quarters, the Monument Mountain girls basketball team more than hung with Central Massachusetts power Quaboag. The third quarter came, and that changed everything.

Quaboag outscored the Spartans 14-1 in the third quarter, breaking open a one-point game and handing Monument ( 0- 2) a 45- 29 defeat on Saturday afternoon.

"For the second game in a row, we just couldn't get anything going," Spartans coach Chris Unsworth said. "We got shots from the people we wanted to be shooting. They just didn't go in."

Monument rallied from a 15-11 first- quarter deficit and trailed 23-22 at halftime. That one-point third quarter did the Spartans in.

Brittany Herring had a game- high 18 points for Quaboag, while Jess Korzec had 12.

Heather Hassett led Monument with nine points.
