GREAT BARRINGTON -- The pool at Bard College at Simon's Rock will be the place to be for county swim fans.

The Berkshire County Individual swim meet will begin at noon today, and is expected to run most of the day, according to Monument Mountain coach and event coordinator Jill Svirida.

The meet is a showcase for the county's top swimmers and relay teams. But interestingly, said Svirida, most of the swimmers will probably not be swimming in their signature events.

"There's no scoring for teams, so the pressure is kind of off, and it's more of a fun thing," she said. "We call it an unscored championship-style event.

"A lot of the swimmers in the county will be swimming events you don't usually see them swim."

The meet will give swimmers and teams a chance to swim in a Western Mass.-style meet, said Svirida, which is one of the reasons it was revived after not being held last year.

"It should be fun for the swimmers," she said. "That's the main reason we're doing it."
