CHESHIRE -- Hoosac Valley clinched a tie for the Southern Division title with a 56-24 win over Mount Greylock on Thursday night. The Hurricanes will claim the title with a win over Lenox Monday.
The Hoosac defense did its job out of the gate, holding the Mounties to three points in the first quarter. The Hurricanes led 28-11 at halftime and never trailed again.
"Our chant is ‘All out,' " Hoosac coach Ron Wojcik said. "When we come out on the court we're all out. To play that [style] you have to be all out all the time. If you take a possession off, they are going to get an easy shot out of it."
Emily Rosse had a game-high 15 points for the Hurricanes while Jen Gale added 10.
Lenox 48, Everett 37
SHEFFIELD -- The Lenox girls basketball team got things started against Mount Everett in a big way.
The visiting Millionaires controlled the first quarter, taking a 15-3 lead, and never let the Eagles get back in the game.
Liz Mitts scored 18 to lead Lenox, while Deseraye Conaway scored 12 for the home side.
McCann 27, Southwick 25
NORTH ADAMS -- Any time you can hold an opponent scoreless in a quarter of basketball, good things will come your way. When the McCann Tech girls' basketball team did it to Southwick in the final eight minutes of Thursday night's game, it allowed the Hornets to complete the comeback.
"Shutting them down with zero points in the fourth quarter was really big," coach Mike Dowling said simply.
On the same night the girls' soccer team had its banner raised for a league championship in the fall, the basketball team secured at least a share of the Bi-County West title.
Mary Nguyen's 10 points led the way for McCann. Dobbert was right behind with eight, including two 3-point baskets.
Hampden Charter 21
CHICOPEE -- The Warriors jumped out to a 24-5 first quarter lead, and didn't let the home side back in the game.
"We had a very intense defensive effort the entire game," said Wahconah coach Ed Ladley. "And we gave some of kids who don't play a lot a chance to contribute, so that was a positive."
Marco Anastasio led the winners with 16 points.
