SHEFFIELD — Dennis Picard of Storrowton Village Museum will deliver a program called "Cheerful Despite Their Ragged Clothing: Hessian Prisoners in Berkshires and Beyond," at 7:30 tonight at the Sheffield Historical Society's meeting.

The program will be held at Dewey Memorial Hall on the Green in Sheffield.

The program will focus on the experience of German prisoners of war during the American Revolution in western Massachusetts and northern Connecticut. The "Hessians," as they were collectively called, served with the British forces under contract to King George III. Many of these troops passed through Sheffield after their surrender at Saratoga. Several Hessians settled here and in Great Barrington after the war.

Society meetings are free and open to the public. Light refreshments will be served. Information: (413) 229-2694.
