PITTSFIELD -- Jake McNeice struck out 10 batters in five innings as Myron Gray West stopped Don Gleason North 5-2 in the first round of the District 1 12-year-old Little League Tournament at Springside Park.
McNeice also had a home run and scored twice. Brett Murphy had a two-run single and Mike Keyes had a two-run double for the winners.
Devon Walker scored two runs and Anthony Whitely and Gabe Coyne each had singles for North. Izaiya Mestre pitched six innings in the loss.
West will now meet the winner of tonight's North Adams-Great Barrington game on Saturday at 2 p.m. Pittsfield South meets Dalton-Hinsdale in Saturday's other winners bracket semifinal.
In the opener of the 10/11 tournament at Deming Park, Pittsfield South defeated Myron Gray West in a 10-run-rule game called after four innings.
South pitchers Ian Benoit, John Halse and Paul Wales combined for a one-hit shutout in the 25-0 victory. Benoit also had four hits, including a triple. Marco DiNicola had three hits while Hayden Harrington, Halse and Wales had two hits.
North Adams 7, Aces 6
PITTSFIELD -- North Adams scored a pair of runs in the top of the seventh and added the go-ahead run in the top of the eighth to edge the Aces at Clapp Park.
"A little discouraging," admitted Aces coach Bill Dassat. "We played fairly decent, and it looked like we were going to pull one out, and we didn't.
North Adams scored five unearned runs on four Aces errors.
"That's way too many," said Dassat.
North Adams scored a pair of unearned runs in the seventh to rally from a 6-4 deficit.
In the eighth inning, Chase Preite walked, advanced on a sacrifice hit and scored on an RBI single by Robert Jutras. Jutras pitched the last five innings of the game to pick up the win and also ripped three hits for North Adams.
Eric Leitch and Lane Grogan each triple for the Aces, while Josh Conant had a double. In addition to Jutras, Preite had three hits, as well.
