WILLIAMSTOWN -- The Williams College men’s soccer team will get to play at least one more game on Cole Field.
The Ephs advanced to the second round of the NCAA Division III tournament on Saturday, beating Thomas College 2-1. Patrick Ebobisse’s goal at 59:09 broke a 1-1 tie and sent Williams (14-1-3) into today’s second-round game against St. Lawrence.
The Ephs dominated play, outshooting Thomas 26-9 and forcing goalie Mikkail Crockwell to make 10 saves. He couldn’t stop NESCAC rookie of the year Mohammed Rashid in the first half and couldn’t stop Ebobisse in the second.
The game-winning goal came when Ebobisse passed to Rashid, and Rashid crossed it back to his teammate. Ebobisse was unmarked and scored easily.
Michael Hand was the goal scorer for Thomas (15-3-2).
The Ephs will play St. Lawrence (14-2-3) today at 1:30, after the Saints beat Eastern Connecticut 2-1 in double overtime.
NCAA women’s soccer
NORTON -- A pair of nationally-ranked women’s teams will play to move on in the NCAA Division III tournament as Williams will play host Wheaton today at 1:30.
The Ephs advanced with a 2-0 win over Farmingdale State on Saturday.
Hannah Van Wetter went the distance in goal for Williams, and made only three saves to record the shutout.
Caitlyn Clark put the Ephs up 1-0 when she sored on Carla Nicasio’s corner kick at 25:27.
Williams (13-3-2), ranked ninth in the country, will play No. 25 Wheaton (17-1-6) after the Lyons edged Westfield State 1-0 in overtime.
Westfield (18-1-1) surrendered a goal just 13 seconds into the first overtime. Cat Amick’s low shot eluded Owls’ goalie Jess Habif. Cassey Muse was credited with the assist.
