Mount Everett sophomore wrestler Bradley Lupiani earned a third-place finish at the MIAA All-State meet Saturday in Salem.
At 113 pounds, Lupiani defeated Lynnfield/North Reading's Eric Kerr 5-2 in the third-place match. He had started the day with an 11-1 major-decision loss to eventual runner-up Ben Zogby of Franklin, but rebounded in the consolation bracket with a 1-minute, 30-second pin of Marlborough's Omar Vazquez in the semifinals.
From there, Lupiani got a third-period reversal and 3-point near fall on Kerr to take control of the third-place match.
"It was a good tournament for him," said Eagles assistant coach Dan Lanoue of Lupiani's finish. "I thought he rebounded real well in the wrestleback."
Lupiani, who moves on to next weekend's New England Championships, was the Western Mass. champion and Division III state runner-up at 113. He was the only Berkshire County wrestler to advance to the second day of competition.
The New England meet begins Friday in Providence, R.I.
"Obviously, New Englands is going to be tough," said Lanoue. "Right now, we're going to focus on getting him rested up. It's been a very grueling week: He wrestled 13 matches against some very quality competition. But we'll be ready. I'm optimistic he'll do well."
Lupiani has lost just three matches this season, with two of them in the postseason -- once Saturday, and once in the Division III state championship match.
