KALAMAZOO, Mich. -- The Williams College tennis teams have reached the semifinal round of their NCAA Division III tournaments.
The women topped Johns Hopkins 5-1 in the quarterfinals, while the men downed Trinity (Texas) by an identical 5-1 score.
The women's semifinals will bring together the top four D-III teams in the country. Top-ranked Amherst will play No. 4 Emory at 8:30 a.m., while No. 3 Williams will play No. 4 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps at 11.
The Ephs, who won their seventh straight match, won two of three doubles matches for a 2-1 lead. In singles, the Ephs went 3 for 3 and when Monica Pastor beat Shannon Libaw 6-1, 6-1 at No. 6 singles, the Ephs advanced.
With the win, the sixth-ranked Eph men will play No. 10 Washington (Mo.) in a 4 p.m. semifinal today. The other semifinal features top-ranked Claremont-Mudd-Scripps against No. 3 Amherst.
Williams swept the three doubles points and clinched the semifinal berth when Matt Micheli won a tiebreaker over Nick Moreno in the third set to take the fifth point and the match.
