WILLIAMSTOWN -- Monument Mountain started quickly against Mount Greylock, with a 64-yard touchdown pass from Austin Pectal to Brandon Perry.

But after that score, the Greylock defense shut down the Spartans' offense on the way to a 36-8 victory.

The game was held Monday at Allen Field after the originally scheduled Thursday game was canceled due to the Mount Greylock school shutdown.

Monument coach Bill LaGrant said he wanted to start the game fast, but couldn't keep momentum in his team's favor.

"That's why I called that [pass play]. I saw something where I could get a seam route, it was there and it worked," LaGrant said. "But we couldn't move the ball on the ground and that's our forte."

The Greylock defensive line, led by Matt Hogan and Jake Benzinger, brought continuous heat on the Spartans quarterbacks. The Mounties collected five sacks and disrupted many more with their pressure.

The Mounties' defense withstood the early strike from Monument, but it was the Greylock offense that delivered the knockout blow.

Greylock generated its offense with a balanced attack. Quarterback Brodie Altiere passed for 115 yards and two touchdowns, both going to wide receiver Mike McCormack. McCormack ended the game with three catches for 86 yards.

On the ground, the Mounties were led by running back Daivon Clement. He finished with 18 carries for 113 yards and two touchdowns. Clement added the final score with 3 minutes, 4 seconds left in the game, giving his team a 36-9 lead.

As Greylock prepares for a matchup against Hoosac Valley on Friday, Mounties coach Shawn Flaherty wants his team to cut down on its mistakes.

"It was an ugly win and it was a win. We have a premier team coming into Allen Field Friday night," Flaherty said. "We can't play like the way we did tonight."
