LEE -- Quarterback Cam Abderhalden threw two touchdowns and Dan Griffin ran for a third as the Lee High Wildcats rolled over the Drury Blue Devils, 29-0.
Abderhalden's scoring strikes 43 yards to Jordan Williamson and six yards to Heamon Williams in the first quarter followed a pair of Drury turnovers.
Lee head coach Keith Thomson was impressed with how the sophomore led the Wildcats to a quick 14-0 lead in the first seven minutes of the game. Abderhalden was making his second start, in place of injured senior Deaglan Giarolo.
"The guys on offense have been rallying around him," Thomson said. "For a young guy he's not forcing the passes."
Abderhalden finished the game 7 of 11 for 117 yards passing.
Equally efficient on the ground was Griffin as the junior Wildcat carried the ball only six time for 91 yards, 31 coming on a nifty touchdown run down the left side, breaking a couple of tackles along the way.
The game's final score late in the fourth quarter followed a brief on-field scuffle between several Lee and Drury players that officials and both teams' coaching staffs quickly broke up. No one was ejected and the remaining 3:43 was played without further incident.
Meanwhile, Lee's defense pitched a second consecutive shutout, holding the Blue Devils to 92 yards of total offense, keyed by the Wildcats 10 tackles behind the line of scrimmage -one that lead to a safety.
"We were fast giving our linebackers a chance to break through the holes in their line," said Lee defensive end Will Zeininger.
The pressure defense also kept Drury quarterback Kareen Beckett in check; sacking him twice and picking of two off two of his 14 pass attempts.
"We mixed things up with our blitzes getting good penetration," Thomson said.
The Blue Devils only crossed midfield once reaching the Lee 45 just before their best drive of the game stalled as the first half ended.
Lee now prepares for another North County foe in Mount Greylock. The Wildcats travel to Williamstown next Friday, needing another win to keep their postseason hopes alive.
The Wildcats have managed to overcome some sloppy play and costly penalties to win their last two games, but that won't work against the Mounties.
"We have to play mistake-free if we're going to win," said Zeininger.
