CHICOPEE -- Alyssa Kelly and Lydia Graham scored four goals each as the Lee girls lacrosse team held on in the second half, withstanding a Chicopee Comp charge, to win their opener 8-6 on Thursday.

"It was mostly some ball control by Alyssa, Lydia and a couple of other players," Lee coach Dave Galisa said. "We scored a couple and kept it away a little bit.

"I wasn't happy with some of the turnovers we had, especially in the second half. They definitely came back. I think we have to take a look at that and have a little smarter play."

Hannah Hunter made 15 saves for the Wildcats, who play Pittsfield today and have three games next week.

SHEFFIELD -- Zack Fife kept McCann's bats quiet in his first start of the young season. The Eagles pitcher struck out six Hornets in six innings, allowing just one hit.

"He did very well spotting the ball," Everett coach Jesse Carpenter said. "It's his first time out this year, and he moved the ball around nicely. He didn't really throw to the middle of the plate. He worked the corners."

Sage Angell was 3 for 4 with a pair of runs scored for Mount Everett (2-0), while Bradley Lupiani (double) and Jon Ovitt (reached base three times) also scored two runs each.
