GREAT BARRINGTON -- The Monument Mountain boys lacrosse team needed only one overtime shot Thursday -- the one Sam Capeless took about 2 minutes into the second OT period that found the back of the net for a game-winning goal. The Spartans beat St. Joseph 4-3.
It was Capeless' second goal of the day. Jack Vickery and Nick Roszkowski added goals for the Spartans (1-1), with Jonah Swotes making 21 saves in goal.
"His angles, his attacking the ball and making a lot of saves at key times [kept] it a close game," Monument coach Rob Leary said. "He was making big saves in both the third and fourth quarter to get us to overtime."
Cody O'Dowd scored twice for St. Joe, with Sam Thomason adding another. Wyatt Porter made 10 saves.

DALTON -- Wahconah got six goals from Quinn Caesar, including the go-ahead goal with less than 2 minutes to go, to spoil the Braves' opener.
Curran Pularo scored twice for the Warriors, helping to offset Mike Perkett's six-goal game for Taconic.
"Mike had a solid game," Taconic coach Bill O'Brien-Garvey said. "I'm very pleased with his effort. Even his face-offs ... he had to be over 60 percent in face-offs.
Mitchell Parise added a goal for Taconic, which plays at Chicopee Comp on Saturday.

WILLIAMSTOWN -- Mike McCormack's seven-goal day led the Mounties past the Wildcats on Thursday. The Mounties, who dispatched of St. Joseph 17-4 earlier this week, are now 2-0.
