DALTON -- Steve Witkowski and two relievers helped Taconic's baseball team win a pitchers' duel in the rain Friday afternoon, as the Braves knocked off Wahconah 3-2.
The Warriors had their chances in the game, stranding nine runners over seven innings. Wahconah left the bases loaded in the first, left runners on second and third in the second, and had the go-ahead run at the plate in both the sixth and seventh innings.
Despite the loss, Wahconah coach Jared Shannon said he was pleased with how his team played.
"We took our lumps last year with a young team," he said. "I'm happy with the way we played. If we keep that up, I think we'll be fine."
The Braves took the lead for keeps with two runs on no hits in the first inning. Taconic went up 3-0 on Joey Dewey's RBI double in the top of the third.
Wahconah answered with single runs in the third and fifth innings. Eli Pease scored from third on a passed ball in the third, and Ryan Washburn scored on Kyle Kirchner's ground out.
Dewey pitched the seventh to get the save.
