GREAT BARRINGTON -- The speed of Brandon Perry helped Monument Mountain score the game-winning run, beating Taconic 4-3 on Saturday.

With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Peter Oggiani drew a walk. With two outs, Oggiani stole second and advanced to third on a throwing error.

Austin Pectal drew a walk and then Perry hit a slow roller to the Taconic shortstop. The shortstop fielded the ball, but Perry’s speed allowed him to beat the throw as Oggiani scored the winning run.

Perry had two hits for the game.

Oggiani earned the win, going the distance, striking out three, walking six, allowing seven hits and two earned runs.

Taconic’s Alex Carusotto pitched five innings, allowing three earned runs on seven hits, three walks and a hit batter. Jake McNeice entered in relief of Carusotto and was charged with the loss.

Mitch Clary had three hits and two RBI for Taconic.

Cathedral 4, Pittsfield 0

SPRINGFIELD -- Pittsfield failed to capitalize on run scoring opportunities, getting blanked by Cathedral.

Anthony Jones reached base on an error to start the second inning. After stealing second, the Generals tried to advance Jones to third with a bunt, but Jones was called out an a close play, ending the scoring threat.

Pittsfield put two runners on base in the third with two outs, but again, could not drive them in.

Starting pitcher Bobby New scatter seven hits over six innings, walking one, striking out five while allowing three earned runs in the losing effort.

Softball
Monson 7, Mount Greylock 1

WILLIAMSTOWN -- A strong pitching performance silenced Mount Greylock’s bats during its loss to Monson.

Monson’s Carly Zielinski went the distance, striking out 10 and giving up seven hits. She didn’t walk a batter or allow an earned run.

Heather Tomkowicz took the mound for the Mounties. The Mustangs tagged her for 13 hits, but the six consecutive base hits surrendered in the fourth inning allowed Monson to open up its lead.

Monson’s Madi Disanti started the hit parade with two outs in the fourth. Mikayla Skowyra capped the rally with the sixth single of the inning, scoring Graycen Legere.

Markell Shea went 2 for 3 for the Mounties.

Boys lacrosse
Taconic 10, Chicopee Comp 7

CHICOPEE -- Brad Cobb had a career-best, five-goal day and Josh Tassone won in his first-ever game in goal as the Braves improved to 1-1.

Taconic goalie Brice Ovitt broke a thumb in the season-opening loss to Wahconah, so coach Bill O’Brien-Garvey asked for someone to step up. The junior midfielder raised his hand and made eight saves in the win.

The Braves trailed 1-0 after one quarter, but outscored the Colts 4-0 in the second quarter and never trailed again.

Mike Perkett, who had a goal and two assists, won 11 of the 13 faceoffs he took. Brad Walton won five of seven faceoffs.

"We dominated faceoffs and that’s what won us the game," said O’Brien-Garvey.

Cobb led the way with five goals and two assists for Taconic. Max Rivera had a hat trick for Comp.
