WILLIAMSTOWN -- Rachel Voller's third hit of the day proved to be the biggest one for the Mount Greylock softball team.

Voller's single in the bottom of the seventh inning scored Sam Betti from third base as the Mounties rallied to beat Taconic 10-9 on Thursday afternoon.

The Mounties trailed 6-1 after three innings.

"We made a lot of mistakes early," said Greylock coach June Blake. "It was a great team win."

Betti led off the seventh by reaching third on a single and a two-base error. With one out, Dana Clement reached first on a fielder's choice and then stole second. After Sam Joy flied out and the runner didn't score, Voller, who was 3 for 5 with four runs batted in, ripped a pitch into left-center field. Had it not been the seventh, Blake said it might have been a home run.

Betti also had three hits for Greylock. Amanda Ely was a home run away from hitting for the cycle for Taconic.

EAST LONGMEADOW -- It's always a challenge for a Berkshire County team to head to the Pioneer Valley for a game. On Thursday, it was the Pittsfield softball team's turn, and the Generals came home happy by beating East Longmeadow.

Pittsfield broke open a close game with a five-run fifth inning. Sam DeCarlo's two-run single in the fifth keyed the rally.

"This is a Division I team that's in the hunt for [a Western Massachusetts title] every year," PHS coach Greg Marchbanks said. "For us to come out of Berkshire County and beat one of them is always big."

Lauren Carnevale had three of Pittsfield's 12 hits and she drove in two runs. DeCarlo, Erin Murphy and Allie Hunt all had two hits each.

GREAT BARRINGTON -- Mistakes in the field allowed St. Joseph to score five runs in the third inning, leading to victory. The Spartans had four errors in the third, in addition to a walk and a hit batter. The inning put St. Joe up 7-0.

Monument mounted a comeback, scoring six runs in the final four innings, but they could not complete the rally.

Julia Murphy earned the win for St. Joe, going the distance and striking out 13.

"We had a hard time fielding the ball," Monument coach Dave Brown said. "They hit it soundly, but there were balls that we just booted."
