Taconic High School's Courtney Luscier will head into this weekend's Central-Western Mass. track and field meet with one major championship to her credit.
Luscier won the 100 meters in Monday's completion of the Districts F&G Division I meet, held at Minnechaug. The meet had been halted by rain Friday.
The Braves' sprinter won in 13.01 seconds, backing up her top time from last week's preliminary heats.
"The weather [was] warm, so my muscles weren't as tight," Luscier, who also credited a softer, more manageable track, said. "It was a beautiful track."
The win -- which she said came by a neck-lean, or thousandths of a second, over Central's Shalayna Burris -- gives Luscier confidence heading into Saturday's Central-Western Mass. D-I meet.
"It was pretty relieving, winning," she said. "I'll have more of a warm-up [Saturday], which will increase my speed and time."
She's not alone as a divisional champion from Pittsfield, either. PHS thrower Aaron Weeks won the javelin with a throw of 149 feet, 6 inches. He and Taconic's Evan Kalinowski (146-2) made sure the city went 1-2 in the event. In all, four throwers placed in the top six in the javelin; PHS' Evan Bossio (144-3) was fourth, and teammate Zach Williams (134-4) was sixth.
Taconic's Dom Nda took third place in the boys 100 (11.19) and third in the long jump (20-10 1/2).
Pittsfield's girls were strong in the relays, taking fourth in the 1,600 relay (4:24.31) and eighth in the 400 relay (55.37).
Other boys local point scorers included:
-- Pittsfield's Aaron Coty, seventh in the 110 hurdles (17.1); and the 400 relay, seventh (47.04).
-- Taconic's Matt Rabasco, fifth in the 2-mile (10:14.72); Kirk Doherty, eighth in the shot put (38-9 1/2) and fifth in the discus (112-4).
Other girls local point scorers included:
-- Pittsfield's Amanda Wright, sixth in the 100 (13.2) and fifth in the 200 (27.28); Jillian King, eighth in the 400 (1:04.55); Makayla Powers (fifth, 4-8) and Rebecca Williams (sixth, 4-8) in the high jump; and Williams, seventh in the javelin (86-6).
-- Taconic's Keiana West, seventh in the 100 hurdles (19.43); Alyssa Doerle, fifth in the discus (88-10); Hannah Barbarotta, fourth in the javelin (104-0); and Anita Curtin, eighth in the 2-mile (12:56.64).
The Central-Western Mass. Division I meet will be held Saturday at Westfield State.
