BELCHERTOWN -- Two Berkshire County girls tennis teams have reached the Western Mass. Division III semifinal round, and they could be joined by a third today.

Mount Greylock earned a 4-1 victory at No. 3 seed Belchertown on Sunday, sweeping singles play in straight sets. The No. 6 seed Mounties (15-3) await the winner of today's Monument Mountain-Greenfield match; the second-seeded Spartans (14-0) are the highest-ranked team left after Lee's upset of top seed South Hadley on Friday.

Tara Shastri, Melina Sfakianaki and Mariza Sfakianaki each won a singles match to clinch the quarterfinal win for Greylock.

"Our singles players came out strong, all winning 6-1 in the first set," Mounties coach John Jacobbe said. "The leadership of the singles came out right away. Mariza was in a tough second set, and doubles did a great job coming back.

"We competed in all five spots, and we're fortunate enough to be on the higher end in four of those."

Jacobbe expects to see the Spartans -- the defending Western Mass. champions and state runners-up -- in a semifinal in Great Barrington this week, which would guarantee Berkshire County of a sectional finalist in D-III for the fifth straight year.

"It was good for Lee and us to take down higher seeds outside of Berkshire County. We're showing the strength of our programs," Jacobbe said.

"We're going to have a hard, hard time facing Monument, but when you step on the court, anything's possible."
