PALMER -- The Lee girls tennis team is advancing to the Western Mass. Division III final after strong performances from its seniors in singles play led to a 4-1 win over Palmer on Tuesday.

The Wildcats (13-5) -- seeded eighth in the draw -- swept their singles matches, and all singles players won in straight sets.

Palmer took one point at No. 1 doubles. But at No. 2 doubles, Sarah Winston and Madison DiSantis battled back after dropping the first set, winning in a third-set tiebreaker 5-7, 6-4 (12-10).

"The girls are very happy and excited. We'll take it as it comes," Lee coach Jeff Forget said. "They played some pretty dominant tennis today."

Lee awaits the winner of the Mount Greylock-Monument Mountain match that was postponed to 4 p.m. today. Monument, the unbeaten No. 2 seed in the draw, and Greylock accounted for all of Lee's losses during the regular season.

Senior Emma Forget knows either matchup will be tough, but she said confidence is high among the team members who have already dispatched of South Hadley, the top seed in the tournament, in this postseason. She said the Wildcats were not at full strength during the team's earlier matches against Greylock and Monument.

Now with a full complement of players, the Wildcats plan to give either Monument or Greylock their best shot in the Western Mass. championship.

"We all know it's going to be difficult, but we all feel really good as an No. 8 seed and surprised everyone," she said.

Forget added that, while it's nice to advance to the Western Mass. final, the team does not have time to dwell on its victory.

"Win or lose, we're happy with how far we gotten," he said, "and we'll stay positive about our next match."
