PITTSFIELD -- After allowing a seven-run inning to the North Shore Navigators on Wednesday, a dominant per formance from starter Jamin Mc Cann was exactly what the doctor ordered for the Suns.

McCann pitched seven strong innings against Martha’s Vine yard on Thursday night, surrendering only one hit, striking out three and allowing one run in leading Pittsfield to a 5-1 win.

"My curveball was really working for me," McCann said. "It was kind of off and on -- thanks to my defense -- that’s the only reason I only gave up one hit."

Pittsfield scored two runs in both the third and fourth innings, providing all the support the McCann needed. The runs in the third resulted from an error by Sharks shortstop Will Toffey that allowed Dan Cellucci and Luke Reynolds to score.

Cellucci added an RBI single in the fourth, after Derek Gardella plated one with a ground-rule double that bounced over the left-field fence.

Martha’s Vineyard’s only run came when Ross Danzig scored on a ground out in the fifth inning after he recorded the first hit of the game for his team.

"We needed that [start]," Suns manager Tom Conley. "Jamin’s been doing that all year. We feel confident every time he takes the bump."

McCann’s start was welcome break for the Suns bullpen, which only had to pitch two innings. Reliever Alex Lagos pitched those and gave up no runs.

McCann said after Wednesday’s tough loss, the ride home was not as jovial as a typical ride. He’s hoping his start will provide a morale boost to the team.

"It’s a good thing to come back and play real hard the next day," McCann said. "Last night we couldn’t put everything together. Tonight, we got the hits, and came out and got a good win. Hopefully this will carry on from tonight and for the rest of the season."
